I can hardly believe I have been back for almost two months, it feels like I just got back but at the same time if felt like I have never left. It has been so AWESOME being back, it has been so good to re connect with old friends and to get the ball rolling on setting up camp. I feel like I have so much to say but I will try and be choosy and not ramble on to much.
Well number one, we have almost everything we need for camp. All the kitchen stuff is bought, the table and chairs and all the bedding. It was quiet fun when we went to buy the kitchen stuff, me not being kitchen savvy, especially when it comes to what would be needed for 30+ people, I just sat there and my friends went around and put stuff in a pile, but we did get a super good deal and it was a lot of fun. For the table and chairs and the bedding, a friend went around the centre for Bogota (not the best place to be wandering around) and checked everything out and found the stores that had the best quality for the best price and then he came and picked me up and I paid and it was a done deal. It was various trips however to pick everything up….mattresses take up a lot of room. (I did post a bunch of pictures on Facebook, but was advised to take them down, so not the whole Colombian Facebook world could see what I had. I haven’t had to think about these things for a while). And a friend of mine (from Canada) has a brother that lives in Medellin (another Colombian city) and has a furniture shop and he is going to make these amazing wood bunk beds and only charge me the cost of material, I am SOOOOO excited for this. I really wanted wood bunk beds but settled on metal ones cause here they are WAY cheaper… not when you have a brother of a friend though…
I am also living up at the camp land and even thought there is no water (we had to empty all the rain water tanks and clean them cause the water was dirty and moldy) and we do have a pump (thats broken but should be getting fixed or looked at sometime soon) and even though moving day was a little stressful with a few tears…. It’s up hill all the way and we had our ministry bus full of stuff and my truck full of stuff. We were not even half way and my truck overheated (I wasn’t really paying attention to the temperature gage if I am being honest) but anyways we were stuck on the side of the road for hours. The bus had to go up, drop off the stuff, come back, get the stuff in the truck and then go back up. We found a random mechanic, who just thought it was the fan belt, and went to find parts for it, couldn’t find then so had to go to a small town. Meanwhile we just waited and waited and waited. In our waiting we got hungry, so got a number for a fried chicken restaurant, told them where we were parked and they brought the chicken right to the truck on a motor bike. It turns out after all that waiting it was more then just the fan belt (random words that I don’t know in Spanish or English…) so we found a parking garage, parked it overnight and got a tow truck in the morning to take it to a very trusted mechanic. But other then that I have been loving living at the camp land. It is so beautiful and peaceful and quiet and I have two puppies ( that will be my guardish dogs, when they are bigger). The house needs a cleaning from head to toe, but need to wait until the water situation is remedied, and there is A LOT of outdoor work to be done (like various teams could come and help and there would be more than enough work to do), so if you want to come down and help just let me know….I can host approximately 32 people, and I love people so the more the merrier.
I am hoping to do start camps in the school holidays the kids have in mid June (maybe do a trial run on a random weekend), but it really just depends on when we are set up and ready and I am not worried about rushing things, I would prefer that we are ready and that we can do things well, then rushing and doing them haphazardly. This I know will be challenging for me, cause all of the kids have been asking when we are going to start camps and I think I just may be more excited then them.
I do think that’s it, in a nut shell of course but I do have some items that I would love prayer for.
- the water situation, while I am making do it would be lovely to have water.
- Still praying for other full time staff to join me. While I have been blessed with amazing staff in the past and know they will continue to be a blessing, it would be nice to have staff that have the same passion and vision of the outdoors and being in creation and how kids can know and experience their Father in creation and also all the life lessons on can take from these type of activities
- For safety, a week before I moved in the house that I am living in was broken into, it’s always a possibility and has happened in the past to other houses we have here and neighbours houses (hence getting the dogs). And if I am being honest I thought I would be scared at night being by myself (other people are close but I am still in the big house by myself) but I have been reading and meditation on Psalm 27 and have not been scared at all, but as I mentioned, safety is always a concern and would love prayer as I continue to trust in my Father.
Well I do think that’s it, once again I will try to be better at keeping you updated on a more regular basis.
The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is my refuge and fortress of my life, whom shall I dread?
For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will life me up on a rock.
Psalm 27:1 and 5
