Where has the time gone… it’s already mid June and my sabbatical is pretty much half over. I thought that I would be bored after getting back from New Zealand and trying to find things to occupy my time, but it is the complete opposite, I am going to have to remind myself to take time to rest, cause I think that’s what your suppose to do on a sabbatical, but don’t quote me on that, I have never taken one before so I am not 100% sure what I am suppose to be doing (insert smiley face).
I thought I would just take a minute to update you all and let you know what I have been doing to keep busy.
For all of you who were asking and still not sure, I am going back to Colombia. So far the plan is end of December beginning of January.
This summer I will be busy at camp, starting with three weeks at Frontier Lodge in Nordegg at the beginning of July and two weeks at Bethel Bible camp, both in August. With the rest of the time I plan on catching up with friends in Southern Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. I also hope to do a mini retreat, just me for a couple days sometime in the fall. Location to be determined.
I have had a wonderful couple months back in Canada… it has been amazing really. I normally come back to Canada in the winter time so a lot of the things I have been doing, it’s been about 6 years since I have done them or more, so I thought I would share some of the highlights of my time so far.
- For those of you who don’t know… I LOVE HOCKEY and I LOVE THE OILERS and for the past 5 or so years I would follow hockey on nhl.com, just hitting refresh every couple of minutes, unless I was able to stream a couple of games. But with two lovely friends, I drove down to Anaheim (it only took 26 hours, one way) and was able to watch game seven. As most of you know Oilers still lost but the experience was still so awesome.
2) Camping with a very dear friend in Northern Alberta and her beautiful kids (one if my god son) so it was so nice to catch up with them and I think that last time that I went camping was in 2010.
3) Long summer nights, it gets dark in Colombia at 6pm and at 5pm for our Canadian winters. This means I can go out walking at 8 or 9 at night and it’s still light out.
4) Quading with my niece and nephew at the cabin my parents are building.
5) Northern lights… did a spontaneous, late night trip out to Elk Island to see them and they were AMAZING….
6) Spending unlimited time with my family
7) Catching up with so many dear friends, with time that isn’t rushed or without having 2-4 visits a day.
8) Being back in my home church (Capilano) and getting reacquainted with old friends and making new ones)
9) Beautiful prairie skies, really nothing like them you guys.
I know there are probably some that I am forgetting some, but needless to say my time back “home’ has been full of blessings and I look forward to making many more memories.
I do have a couple of things to pray for, literally just a couple.
- Is for a team. Those of you who have been following my blog know that this is a HUGE need that we need for Camp Gozo, I would love two or three other people to form a type of a leadership team with me to help make decisions and help with all the responsibility that running a camp entails.
- For one of these leadership people, or it could be someone different, to take over all the administration side of camp. This is a huge need for camp. I have been doing it but it is DEFINITELY not my gifting and what usually causes me the most stress in and around camp.
- That I would have energy and stamina for 5 weeks of camp and for deep connections with the girls that I will be counselling.
That’s it for now. Thanks so much for still supporting me and encouraging me on this journey that God has called me to.
Hockey game in Anaheim, in case that wasn't obvious
Camping, again in case that wasn't obvious
Prairie skies
This one was in April after a crazy snowfall but we have been quading since, I just don't have any pictures.
